I gave a talk on Crash-Starting the Simplex Method at the Optimization Methods in Software 2017 conference held in Havana, Cuba.
We were invited by Ambros Gleixner to work together on integrating our linear solver with the Germans’ mixed integer solver SCIP. We gave talks at a seminar, followed by a few days of collaboration at the research lab. As a bonus the visit coincided with this year’s Festival of Lights in Berlin.
I attended a NATCOR course in Combinatorial Optimisation. The NATCOR CO lectures were very interesting and the course well-organised. I got a chance to meet students from all over Europe. Colleagues from my research group also attended and we had a lot of fun exploring Southampton.
We were invited by the company to spend a week in Tokyo. The optimization team needed to improve the efficiency of their simplex solver and we provided advice on the matter. Our hosts gave us a very warm welcome and a great introduction to the wonders of Japanese culture.
I gave a talk on Crash-Starting the Dual Simplex Method at the SIAM Conference on Optimization 2017. The conference was held in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
We were invited by Sven Leyffer to Argonne to give talks at a seminar, followed by an afternoon of discussions. Researchers raised issues they have had related to linear programming and we talked about potential solutions. The team moved over to the local microbrewery at the end of the day.
